20 May ' 98, 1320 Espaņa, Manila, Philippines. I had my nourishment early. tho i wasn't that hungry, been sleeping all day, being da bum that i am. got to mayric's past 9. it's really amazing what da renovation had done to da place. it's bigger now, more seats & tables, wider space for them moshers, & slam dancers. we ordered beer & da all time favorite -- tokwa't baboy na tamang litson kawali ang yo-bab. there were still [like always] loads of girls....ye see them smiling dz time...gone are da days when they had to crowd da place, sweating it out with da punks[?], standing & getting moshed & touched unwantedly..... on stage was a band called ' Driftwood ' [if i remember right], whose musical style runs da gamut. They did some tunes that kinda remind ye of ' Rizal Underground '. Then they did dz really fun number, that even brought out a good laff & enjoyment from Mon, a rap inspired song, it was really da high point of their set....*s after a brief lull, & a couple rounds of beer. here comes da storm. they had their techies set up da stage & equipment, but unlike other ' popular ' bands they themselves did da tuning. from da tune piece they went directly to da opening assault, a classic...guitars wailing like hell in an extended version of ...hendrix' STONE FREE..father jimmy would hev been proud..then came that pinoy rock tune from da self titled 1st album....mga asong naloloko....HALIK NI HUDAS...great how Basti can carry da tagalog lyrics now,.....CENTER OF THE SUN....took us to a higher plain [or maybe it was da alcohol getting into da system]...with those divine words...lord of question, da ever trusted son, tho his body rests eternal one......for a second there i thought i saw Basti's halo glow......hehe...they maintained da equilibrium of holiness by doing da BEAST next....all over...hands in da air...kinda nice to see people [yep even da ladies] raise their horns....after rocking about da ' above ' & da ' bottom '....da middle's surely to follow...was thinking...owkay....give me da drag version...i haven't heard that for quite some time now...besides that version tends to lull ye to a high since Basti's vox floats & Wolf's drums carries it around da place...it's gonna be nice to hear how da new acoustics [egg trays on da ceiling] of da place affect & reflect da sound...ahhh....nahh...they went for da original version....fast & wild...loved it still....LEFT ALONE owkay...let's stop for a while.....da guys need da mineral water...& besides i had to piss....*s i spent my voice trying to get them to do ' War Pigs '....hmmm...what's that tune...i can name that in 3 notes!!.....' Watermarks '....hehehe......it was MATA NG DIYOS....da crowd joined in for dz one...feeling rockstar ka na rin...but of couse ye let mr. artadi handle da really high parts....or maybe not!!...so we go to da present...it seems like da guys are talking about me with da song 24 from da latest album wurm...they went straight for ACHING TREE....then into an extended version of a Santana[is it?, am not really into him] song....that had Wolf, Manuel, & Mon showing da stuff that made dz band da best in da country...while Basti rested his lungs...all that rocking can take out da air in anyone....then.....what?....they're leaving....that's it?!!!.... after da theatrics...da band went on to show how good a friend they can be with da barkada cult song NATUTULOG KONG MUNDO....then da killer ender...fast & furious...a song that will tell ye that dz is 1 of only 2 filipino bands worth paying to see live, imho...[browse da whole site to find out what's da other!!]...HELL LOOKS...hey....it isn't over yet....da last blow was my personal favorite...with all that deep lyrics & meanings, & subliminal vox...WHAT GROWS IN YOUR GARDEN....mixed with some ' Rage Against the Machine ' chords...a fitting end to a bleeding night..
